Friday 16 January.
Out again at 7:30 am for my run, this is my 6th day in a row. I ran along the coast path towards Los Gigantes but instead of taking the second path I continued all the way up the hill. At a roundabout it was over the top and down hill to the bus station at Los Gigantes. I ran down and around the harbour and back. I didn't take the path round the coast but went up the stairs of the short cut. I tried running the stairs but couldn't make it to the top without a bit of walking. Back at Puerto Santiago I didn't go straight back but did a loop up the hill and past the gym. This gave me a good long run with some tough hills. My time was 56:14 minutes, over 9 km, my furthest so far. After a good stretch beside the pool it was up for breakfast.
While I was out Moira had been on the Internet trying to buy the new Government Pensioner Bonds from the National Savings web site. We knew the bonds were coming out and had put money aside in our current account ready to purchase them. There was a 1 year bond paying 2.8% and a 3 year bond paying 4% per annum. Initially the web site crashed due to the number of people applying, then when she for through it wouldn't accept our NSI a/c number. She reapplied then the bank wouldn't release the money. She phoned the bank and they blamed the debit card company. She gave up at that and made the breakfast ready for me coming back. Later there was an email from NSI saying it was the bank who wouldn't release the money. She phoned the bank again and they said the money had been released but hadn't been taken up yet by NSI. The whole thing is total confusion. I questioned why the likes of Amazon can deal with millions of customers everyday, process their payments and deliver the goods the following day but when the Government want to sell Olympic and Commonwealth Games tickets or now their Bonds they can't anticipate the demand (which is much less than Amazon's customer base) and their web site goes down almost immediately.
I went to he gym again this morning at 11am. Moira was feeling better and came with me but only for the walk. After she left me at the gym she continued to Mercadona then came back for me after an hour. I did some leg work today after 10 minutes on a bike to warm up. I did leg extensions, hamstring curls, heel raises and leg presses. I finished with a few exercises for my abs; crunches and sit-ups. Moira was feeling a bit weak after the climb up the hill to the gym from Mercadona and when we got back to the flat she had a lie down on the bed after lunch.
I did some work on my VF book then we went down to the water front to sit and look at the sea. We found a seat but it wasn't very comfortable so we lay on the grass. It was very warm and there were a lot of annoying flies about causing us to give up and return to the flat after half an hour.
I worked on a crossword when we got back then after dinner there wasn't much on TV until 9 pm when 'The Musketeers' came on. It was quite good but Moira doesn't like it and went to bed early.
