Thursday 5 February.
After my usual stretching I decided to end my run today at the gym and have a workout before breakfast. I carried my sweat towel and had my membership card inside my hat as I set out. I took the bus route through town and up the road towards Santiago del Teide. I took the hill at a steady pace and at the top roundabout turned down past the view point to the Lidl roundabout. From there I picked up my speed along the contour road and down to the gym. I was under the impression that the gym opened early during the week and it was only at weekends where it changed to 10 am but it was closed and didn't open until 9 am, another hour. I decided to come back later and continue my run down the hill and back to the complex. I stretched and headed up for breakfast. My time this morning was a modest 48:32 minutes.
After breakfast I read the newspaper and listened to the radio before preparing to go to the gym again. Initially Moira was going to come with me for the walk but she wasn't feeling well and decided to give it a miss. I walked briskly there and had a good hour's workout. I concentrated today on my abs, shoulders and back. I started off again with my dumbbell routine and some sit-ups with my toes hooked under the bottom of the wall-bars to warm up. I finished just before mid-day and was back in time to listen to Jeremy Vine on the radio while having lunch.
It was reasonably warm out on the veranda and we spent the afternoon there reading and I managed to finish a crossword. Later Margaret got in touch with us on FaceTime. Rhys was there, he is getting big and is quite lively and giggles a lot. Ewan was at nursery so we didn't see him. It was time for the quizzes on TV when we finished the call.
Later after dinner there was another of these food programmes where the family is spending a fortune and the experts help them to cut down. This time they were spending £350/ week. I don't know how you can spend that amount of money and not be eating fillet steaks, lobster, pheasant etc and drinking fine wines. They were having things like pastas, pre-prepared marinated chicken from the supermarket, and chilli con carne. I don't know where they dig these idiots up from and how anybody that stupid would want to appear on National TV and demonstrate how idiotic they are.
After that there was 'Death in Paradise', the same format as all the other shows in the series. It's beginning to get a little bit boring.
