Hill and sprint reps on TENERIFE.

Saturday 31 January.

More problems with the iPad and the Internet. I couldn't get it to connect even though Moira had got hers in and the 'Telegraph' downloaded almost immediately. I think there is something wrong with my iPad. I left it with Moira to 'fix' while I went out for my run.

I wanted to do sprints this morning but needed a change from the usual stretch I use over near the end of town. I decided to go to the harbour at Los Gigantes where there was a long straight along the far side and it would be quiet early in the morning. I went the route along the path round the hill and above the shore. At the bottom of the hill at the beach I decided to sprint up the short hill to the dead end with the house at the top. I did 2 more reps then decided to do a couple of reps up the long hill I had just come down to the beach. This was a much harder hill, longer and steeper, I was gasping for breath both times I reached the top. I did another couple of reps on the shorter hill before continuing to the harbour at Los Gigantes. I did 6 sprint reps along the far side. I sprinted the length, walked to recover then sprinted back. I think it was slightly longer than my usual sprint venue and I was gasping at each finish here as well. I took it easy going back and ran all the way up to the roundabout at Lidl. From there I went along the contour road and found the route down that we discovered on our walk the other day. It was a steep drop and my knees were feeling sore going down. At the bottom, it was just round the corner and I was home. I has a good stretch before going up for breakfast. My time for the session was 59:39 minutes but there was a lot of stopping and walking to recover from my reps but it was a good workout and hopefully my speed it improving.

Moira was successful while I was out with the iPad and not only had she downloaded the newspaper but she got the book 'Wolf Hall' downloaded from Inverclyde library. This is the book that the TV programme is based on, about Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII and the Tudor period. The book should be easier to follow than the TV drama but after reading the first chapter I'm beginning to wonder. The style is a bit odd and is written in the present tense which takes time to get used to.

After 10am when the gym opens on Saturday I headed for a workout. Moira came with me for the walk and when she left me there continued a bit further. I arranged a time with her when I would be back and she could open the gate. I warmed up with my dumbbell routine using light weights. I then worked on my upper body and abs for an hour. It was a bit overcast when I walked back and not as warm as yesterday. Moira opened the gate just as I arrived, very good timing.

We had our lunch outside on the veranda and listened to the radio at the same time. It was still cloudy and cold so we didn't stay out very long but soon came inside. I did the crossword in the 'Telegraph' and managed to get online and enter for the prize. I read another chapter in the 'Wolf Hall' novel and it is not bad. When I finished the chapter it was time for the football results coming through. Morton won and beat Forfar who were top of the league.

Moira made a nice tasty lasagne for dinner and after washing up we watch a 'Lewis' mystery from the Freeview recorder. I think I had seen it before but it was new one to Moira. The TV itself is poor on a Saturday evening. We got to bed a tour usual time of 10 pm. Moira said she got wakened at midnight by people making a noise outside but I didn't hear anything.
