Thigh injury running in TENERIFE.

Saturday 7 February.

It was quality work today on my run. I was out at my normal time after stretching and headed for Los Gigantes harbour. I decided to do some long sprints and ran out to the wall and along the back. It took me nearly 1.5 minutes and I did another 2 reps of the long sprint. I then did 4 reps along the short straight at the back, my times were around 30 seconds for that section. I started my fifth rep and got a pain in my right quadricep muscle. I stopped about halfway into the rep and stretched my thigh muscles. It helped and was just feeling tight and stiff. I headed back then at a slow pace. I went up the hill to the top roundabout then down to Lidl and the contour road, past the gym and home. I did some more stretching and my strained muscle was getting a little painful. My time today was 58:33 minutes.

After breakfast I read the newspaper for an hour then we went to the gym. Moira went to he cardio section and had a long session on the bike before switching to the treadmill for a brisk walk. I concentrated on my legs hoping to ease my damaged muscle. I worked on each of the leg machines in a row; heel raise, hip raise, leg extension, hamstring curls, leg press, and calf raises. I kept the weights at a reasonable level and did 4x20 reps at each station. I finished off doing 4x20 reps on the hip extension frame for my abs. We both finished after an hour then headed back to the flat.

In the afternoon we listened to some comedy radio programmes on iPlayer catch-up. I also managed to complete the 'Telegraph' prize crossword and submit it. I put the TV on at 4:30 pm for the football results, the Morton game against Stirling Albion had been postponed probably snow. I lost interest after that and turned over for the start of the France v Scotland rugby match in the 'Six Nations'. Scotland played quite well and looked promising when they scored a try just before the interval but they were poor in the second half and lost by 7 points.

After dinner Saturday's TV was the usual poor quality and I put the Freeview recorder on. We watched a very old 'Morse' detective mystery. We had probably seen it before but couldn't remember it and it was very good.
