Sunday 1 February.
More trouble with my iPad this morning, I couldn't get the newspaper downloaded. I read my book instead then had a good stretch before setting off for my run. I decided to do a longer distance this morning, combining my long route round Los Gigantes and along the top to the end of town. Then instead of going through town keep straight ahead to Alcala and back along the sea front. I ran an easy pace going out on the coastal path round the hill and into Los Gigantes. I turned at the tree then it was a long steady climb through town, up the zigzag path to the roundabout and continuing to climb past the viewpoint and start of the Santiago del Treide walking route to the top. Over the top I picked up the pace on the quiet road. I timed myself between two kilometre markers and I was doing 4:45 minutes for that kay. The next kay was along the rough roadside track towards Alcala and my time was much slower, though I suspect the marked distance wasn't very accurate. Once I reached the esplanade at Alcala I picked up my pace and pushed hard to the scrambling section before the dirt road along the coast. I was now feeling very tired and my legs were getting heavy, I took it easy though I did try to push a bit harder on the hills through town. The stretching I did at the finish helped to relieve the stiffness that was starting to develop in my calfs and quads. My time was 1hour 35:55 minutes, I used to be able to run a half marathon comfortably in that time but I think the distance today was quite far short of 21 km !
It was a full English for breakfast today but the bacon here isn't as good as at home and the sausages are just 'all right'. Moira had managed to get the 'Telegraph' downloaded for me while I was out running. She discovered that the problem was that her mini iPad wasn't switching off from the Internet so I couldn't get in. She found another button on the mini to turn off the web connection and the iPad got online.
After breakfast Moira was going for a walk but I decided that I had had enough exercise for one day. I stayed in and tuned into the radio via the Internet on the Notebook. Strangely the Notebook connects to the web without any problem. I lay on the couch and read some of my book. I was feeling a bit stiff and sore but after I had a shower I loosened up a bit. Moira got back after I showered, she had walked to Los Gigantes but had forgotten to take money for bread and had to go out to the supermarket at the gate again. She made soup boiling the bones of the rabbit we had the other day as a stock then added a variety of vegetables; it was very nice with a crunchy baguette.
In the afternoon I relaxed with the radio on and the good music we get on Radio2 on a Sunday. I read my book which I'm managing to get into and enjoying. The weather hadn't been very good today, cloudy and chilly; we stayed indoors for most of the time after having lunch on the veranda. In the evening the TV was good with 'Countryfile' and 'Call the Midwife'. We got to bed at 9 pm and read for an hour before getting to sleep. I was wakened an hour or so later with what sounded like somebody upstairs rearranging the furniture. After that it was quiet and I slept well.
